Theater of the Oppressed: An Introduction for Educators

This special session of the Social Justice Teaching Issues group will be facilitated by Dr. Beth Sondel and Dr. Liz Foster-Shaner on Thursday, April 12th 4:30pm -6:30pm in Room 5604 of Wesley Posvar Hall, 230 S. Bouquet Street.

In this brief workshop, participants will learn about and experience a few fundamentals of Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) practice, including: the ways in which our bodies carry oppression; non-verbal exercises to communicate and problem-solve; and using theater to rehearse ideas for positive social change in our classrooms and everyday lives.

Facilitated by Dr. Beth Sondel and Dr. Liz Foster-Shaner as a part of the Social Justice Teaching Issues Workshop Series hosted by faculty in the Department of Instruction and Learning with the Center for Urban Education and the School of Education, University of Pittsburgh.
