Robert Morris University’s annual Education Conference will feature keynote speaker Dr. Jeannette Mancilla-Martinez, Associate Professor of Literacy at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Mancilla-Martinez’s talk “Students’ Comprehension: Language as a Gatekeeper” will describe some of the key challenges to supporting students’ ability to comprehend the text they read, underscoring the often-overlooked role of language. Specifically, the importance of providing students, beginning in early childhood and extending through the formal school years, with opportunities to hear and use language will be discussed in this important presentation.
