Alliance for Refugee Youth Support and Education

PRYSE Academy focuses on academic preparedness, creative expression, and community engagement, and the counselor position is integral to all daily operations of PRYSE Academy. During the first half of the day, counselors lead classrooms of approximately 10 students in academic sessions, supervise larger groups of students during workshops, soccer/recess, and lunch, and ensure that students safely arrive and depart camp every day. During the second half of the day, we bring in partners who focus on creative expression – this includes dancers, artists, painters, writers, and more. The camp then culminates in a showcase where PRYSE students tell a story of their choosing.

We are having 2 sessions of camp this year. Session 1 runs July 16th to August 3rd, and Session 2 runs August 6th to August 24th. Counselors are required to be at camp every day from 8:30-1:30, plus at least 3 afternoons (8:30 am to 5 pm) per week. You must be able to attend training week and both sessions of camp. This is typically a paid hourly position, however other forms of compensation can be considered (i.e. volunteer hours, credit hours). Please indicate your preference in the application when prompted.

PRYSE is the flagship program of the Alliance for Refugee Youth Support and Education (ARYSE). You can learn more about our organization here: https://www.arysepgh.org/.
