Calling all young adults who love music technology and want to become an expert in studio recording and audio mixing.
Nominations are now open for the spring semester of the Tuff Sound Apprentice Program (TSAP) at the YMCA Lighthouse Recording Studio at the Homewood YMCA, thanks to funding support from The Heinz Endowments Youth Philanthropy Program.
This semester will run 10-weeks from Feb 19th through May 7th. During this time 8 young people will receive college level hands-on instruction in studio recording, engineering and mixing. Participants will receive a weekly stipend for their attendance and a certificate upon successful completion of the program.
WHO CAN APPLY
Ideal candidates are young people between the ages of 16-24 who demonstrate passion for recording, mixing, creating songs and sound design. Candidates must be able to demonstrate foundational skills in audio technology, including creating multi-track recordings or compositions. Beatmakers, rappers, singers, instrumentalists, and producers are encouraged to apply.
Selected participants need to commit to attending classes and lab times 2 times per week for all 10 weeks, and completing at least 2 hours of lab work per week. All classes will take place at the Lighthouse Studio in the Homewood YMCA, from 6pm to 7:30pm on Monday and Wednesday. Lab time is offered before class from 4pm to 5:30pm on Monday and Wednesday, additional lab hours are available Friday. Dinner will be provided before class, and transportation home afterwards.
HOW TO APPLY
We are asking youth-serving arts partners to identify and assist youth in applying for this unique opportunity. All applicants must have a reference from a school; after-school program; or youth-serving arts or media organization.
