Students are invited to pitch inventions. Student finalists present Ignite sessions sharing their experience based on the theme of “Students’ as Creators”.

This year’s DETC17 “Design Your Horizon” theme was inspired by the 2016 K-12 NMC/CoSN Horizon Report. All keynotes and breakout sessions will clearly connect to one of the following six key trends accelerating K-12 educational technology adoption:

  • Coding as a Literacy
  • Students as Creators
  • Collaborative Learning
  • Deeper Learning Approaches
  • Redesigning Learning Spaces
  • Rethinking How Schools Work

Vendors whose products clearly connect to one of the following important developments in K-12 educational technology have been invited to attend and sponsor the event:

  • Makerspaces
  • Online Learning
  • Robotics
  • Virtual Reality
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Wearable Technology

Semi-Finalists of the Student Invention Convention will be on site pitching the prototypes of an invention to make the world a better place. Conference participants will listen to the pitches and vote with fake money for their favorite inventions. Six middle and high school finalists will present Ignite sessions themed “Students as Creators” to share their experience designing, creating, and prototyping a product. A final winning invention will be selected.
