SUMMARY:Call for Proposals: EduCon 2027
DESCRIPTION:Who are the kids the world will need? \nThat’s the question we’re bringing to EduCon 2027. \nConversation proposals are due October 1. \nIf you’ve been to EduCon before\, you know the format is the argument: 90-minute conversations\, not presentations. No one stands at the front for an hour. The proposal form asks you directly how you’ll make your session a conversation — treat that as the most important question on it\, because it is. \nIf you haven’t been before: EduCon is both a conversation and a conference. For nearly twenty years\, educators have come to Philadelphia in the coldest part of winter to talk about the future and the now of schools — from the very practical to the big dreams. It is small on purpose. You will end up in a room with people who disagree with you\, and that’s the point. \nWe want proposals from classroom teachers\, from students\, from principals and counselors and librarians and people who left the classroom and can’t stop thinking about it. We want proposals from classroom teachers\, from students\, from principals and counselors and librarians and people who left the classroom and can’t stop thinking about it. You don’t need to arrive with the answers. You need to arrive willing to struggle with the questions that we — as educators and students and citizens — face.

SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Creates: Exploring AI\, Education & Student Agency
DESCRIPTION:How do we prepare young people not simply to use artificial intelligence\, but to question it\, create with it\, and understand how it works? \nJoin Remake Learning\, in partnership with the AI Strike Team\, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh\, Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center\, and the Allegheny Intermediate Unit\, for an interactive gathering exploring what AI literacy can look like when we put curiosity\, critical thinking\, creativity\, and human judgment at the center. \nDesigned for educators\, school and district leaders\, industry and technology partners\, and others interested in AI and education\, this experience will bring adults and young people together to explore these questions firsthand. \nThrough conversations\, hands-on activities\, and live demonstrations\, participants will explore the role of AI in learning\, experiment with AI as a creative thought partner\, and consider what it means to prepare young people to actively shape an AI-powered future. \nThe day will also mark the launch of Pennsylvania Creates\, a new statewide initiative inviting young people to move from simply consuming AI to questioning\, creating with\, and helping shape it. \nInterested in Bringing Students?\nWe are looking for a small number of students ages 14–18 to participate in the interactive AI experience. If you are interested in bringing students\, please contact tyler@remakelearning.org. \nIn Partnership with AI Horizons\nThis event is being held in partnership with AI Horizons on the same day as the AI Horizons conference\, but at a separate location at Bakery Square. You do not need to be attending AI Horizons to participate. \nPlease note: Registration for this event does not provide admission to the AI Horizons conference.

SUMMARY:Designing Learning Ecosystems for Interconnectivity
DESCRIPTION:Young people’s lives are interconnected\, but our systems are not. A learner may move between school\, afterschool programs\, community organizations\, workplaces\, cultural institutions\, higher education experiences\, and civic spaces in a single week. Yet each of these experiences is typically governed by different rules\, funding streams\, credentials\, accountability systems\, and definitions of learning. \nLearning ecosystems emerge when communities intentionally create connections across these environments\, enabling learning\, relationships\, and other opportunities to move with young people rather than remain tied to specific institutions.

DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to invite you to Mechanism’s National Gathering in Philadelphia from May 12–14. \nTitled “Imagining the Future of Local Production\,” this Gathering will be like prom for people who love local manufacturing and production. \nMechanism creates a joyous space where makers\, manufacturers\, policymakers\, community educators\, artists\, faith organizations\, community leaders\, and more work together to strategize and dream about what’s possible when production is rooted in community\, care\, and shared stewardship. \nWith local tours\, rapid share presentations by thought leaders in modern production practices\, and a Design Jam where participants will identify creative ways to turn underutilized urban spaces into spaces for community-led production\, it’s the type of conference that goes far beyond just sitting and listening.\nCome hear about the innovative practices of groups like: \n-Fab City\n-Circular Philadelphia\n-Kensington Corridor Trust\n-North American Center for Post Growth Research\n+ more TBA! \nFormerly called the Urban Manufacturing Alliance\, Mechanism is one of the only nonprofits in the U.S. working in collaboration with communities and manufacturers to create production ecosystems that increase local resilience\, vitality\, and well-being. They’re a leading voice in this space\, which is why past attendees say there’s no other event quite like a Mechanism Gathering.
