SUMMARY:Elementary School/Middle School Science Olympiad Workshop
DESCRIPTION:What is a Science Olympiad? \nA Science Olympiad consists of different hands-on events where students take an active role in exploring science topics related to the school’s science curriculum. The events can be scheduled to occur as half-day up to three-day competitions. \nThe program helps students of all abilities succeed in science by making science fun and exciting. It is designed for students in grades 4 through 7; however\, it can be adapted to include lower grade levels. \nEach event\, either competitive or non-competitive in design\, meets the current National Science Standards\, as well as the Science Standards set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. \nThe EMSSOP Workshop will be held on November 15\, 2024. \nThe purpose of the Elementary/ Middle School Science Olympiad Program (EMSSOP) is to excite\, inspire\, challenge\, and foster the fun side of science for all elementary students of all abilities. \nThe EMSSOP provides information\, manuals\, training\, and grant money for teachers and administrators to promote Science Olympiad programs in their schools or districts. \nThis informational workshop will provide an overview of actual elementary science olympiads. Three schools will present an overview of a one\, two and three day science olympiad program. \nDuring the presentation\, various materials and manuals are distributed to the attendees. Fundamental information is shared regarding how to start and implement a Science Olympiad along with the application process for obtaining grant funds up from the SSP for materials and equipment.
