Congratulations Youth Reporters! [Shared from Pgh Youth Media]
Pittsburgh Youth Media has inducted its High School Youth Reporters cohort for the 2013-2014 academic year. Stay tuned for PYM coverage of upcoming Hive Days of Summer events!
Happy June!
Our committee yesterday accepted 43 new applicants and 3 returning reporters from our One Young World 2012 Summit into the 2013-2014 High School Youth Reporter’s program. This cohort includes 5 ninth graders, 6 tenth graders, 15 eleventh graders, and 20 twelfth graders from the following 31 schools below as well as a home-schooled student. To build on last year’s success covering the summit, the new cohort will serve for the entire 2013-2014 school year covering a range of events with the October Remaking Cities conference as their initial focus.
Also building on last year’s success, 2012 alums are being groomed to serve as Youth Reporters during Summer 2013 to cover the Hive Days of Summer in collaboration with The Sprout Fund under a stipend-based program. We’ll briefly discuss this at the kick-off meeting.
In short, our hard work is taking shape as a program:
- Cohort 1 — First-ever cohort cover OYW 2012 (Fall 2012)
- Cohort 2 — Selected experienced Cohort 1 members serve as stipend-supported reporters covering Hive events (Summer 2013)
- Cohort 3 — New class of 2013-2014 Reporters cover Remaking Cities and other events with mentoring from selected Cohort (2013-2014 school year)
With continued care, Pittsburgh Youth Media is shaping up as a way of life.
The kick-off meeting for this cohort and parents/caregivers was held June 11th at Carlow University, providing an orientation opportunity for everyone involved.
