Writing in the Pittsburgh Business Times, Malia Spencer describes how Thermo Fisher Scientific, with local offices in the Pittsburgh Technology Center on 2nd Avenue, joins UPMC, Highmark, BNY-Mellon, PNC, and Giant Eagle as the latest corporate citizen to establish a named scholarship fund through the Pittsburgh Promise.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Corp. is joining a handful of other Pittsburgh-area companies in establishing a named scholarship at the Pittsburgh Promise.

And this one has a STEM twist.

The Waltham, Mass.-based company is making a $1 million commitment to the Promise to set up a program that will identify high-achieving Pittsburgh Public Schools students interested in pursuing science, technology, engineering or math disciplines as part of their higher education.

Participating students would start the program during their senior year in high school and then continue through college, with the possibility of internships and even employment, said Saleem Ghubril, executive directo of the Pittsburgh Promise.
