Teens 4 Change (T4C) is a nine-month program for youth ages 13-19 of different ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds from southwestern Pennsylvania. Through the experience of creating and running a grant-making program, T4C’s young board members learn the history of philanthropy in the United States and in the Greater Pittsburgh area and acquire a wide range of skills. These skills include: needs assessment, creating and issuing a Request for Proposal, outreach to local youth-led social justice groups, public speaking, proposal evaluation, and consensus-based group decision-making. T4C offers its board members the opportunity to engage with one another, sharing their experiences with social barriers and injustice and gaining a deeper understanding and awareness of the root causes and consequences of those barriers.
