Using science and design to help bring water to Kenya

Working in teams on behalf of the Lwala Community Alliance, girls work to improve tippy-tap hand washing stations used in Alliance’s girls’ schools in Kenya. Use design thinking methods, engineering skills, and CAD-drawing programs to build prototypes. Run statistical analysis and devise creative and scientifically appropriate solutions for girls in developing countries.Track design and engineering work through the the website InnovationPortal.org. Share ideas through a group presentation and design a video with the team’s tippy-tap in action. Kick back with new friends, get creative, and explore social issues like college planning and social and career equity for young women.

This program is part of Pittsburgh City of Learning, an initiative of The Sprout Fund. Learn more at the launch event on June 10th.
