The use of simulation software such as SIM city will teach our students real world problem solving skills through imaginative civic gameplay while working collaboartively to design and create a model of a green city.

The Simulations STEAM Lab at Ringgold Middle School allows students to learn about STEAM careers and the need for creativity in real-world problem solving through experiences with city simulation gaming software where they take on city planning issues. The Lab classroom welcomes teams of students to design and create models of a green city, building aesthetically-pleasing and structurally sound bridges, residential, commercial and industrial areas, power plants, transportation systems and more, while also managing city issues like traffic, taxes, budgets and the environment.

The students will also become immersed in basic programming by incorporating the HummingBird Robotics Kit using SCRATCH programming to add mechanical components to their physical city model. Through the Simulations STEAM Lab, middle school students are enhancing their development of creativity in an academic thriving environment of STEAM learning while building their 21st century skills of critical thinking, team-work, collaboration, and problem-solving.
