Using a microphone and digital recorder to capture an elder’s life story.
Using a microphone and digital recorder to capture an elder’s life story.

Learn the fundamentals of microphones, digital recorders, interviewing and audio editing and make a project that will engage an audience.

With Saturday Light Brigade’s Radio Documentaries project, students learn about the value of using sound to capture interviews, elicit expression, convey ideas and engage an audience. Hands-on learning is used to discover best practices for microphone selection, use and placement; digital recorder use and care; and audio editing. Final projects include personal narratives, documentaries or oral histories to be distributed via radio, StoryBox, CD and online, allowing students to engage and share their stories with the world.

This program is part of Pittsburgh City of Learning, an initiative of The Sprout Fund. Learn more at the launch event on June 10th.
