Pittsburgh Data Jam 2015

Students from eight area high schools are learning how data is changing the way we live, work, and play.

Students from eight area high schools: Avonworth, Bethel Park, Cornell, Ellis School, Fox Chapel, North Allegheny, Sewickely Academy and South Fayette are gearing up to:

  • Learn how data is changing the way you live, work and play
  • Get hands-on experience using data to analyze and solve problems
  • Learn to use new data visualization tools
  • Go on field trips to leading big data and analysis companies
  • Hold discussions with data analysts

THE DATA JAM PROGRAM

  • Approximately 100 students, in the 9th – 12th grade, participating in team challenge
  • 16-20 innovation teams with 5-7 students and 1 faculty member as mentor
  • Work on a data analysis problem – gather, visualize, analyze data to gain insights and draw conclusions
  • Field trips to companies using/offering big data technologies
  • Interviews with in-the-field data scientists
  • February 1 – April 28, 2015

THE DATA JAM FINALE {TUESDAY, APRIL 28}

  • Final presentations attended by Pittsburgh city and county officials
  • Awards for top entries including internship offers
