Teaching beyond three dimensions

Musician Jeff Boller of Greensburg, who releases music under the moniker The Simple Carnival, took up 3D animation to create a 40-minute film companion to his album Smitten. What began as a unique way to present his music grew into a successful series of workshops called 3D for Kids (www.3dforkids.net). In these workshops, kids and adults learn how 3D works, how to use a 2D camera to make 3D images, how to draw 3D comics, and how ordinary art supplies can be used to make sophisticated animated 3D cartoons.

Boller is a software developer by trade and writes software that helps facilitate the 3D production process in his studio. He was the recipient of the Ray Zone Award for Excellence in 3-DIY at the 10th Annual LA 3D Movie Festival in Los Angeles.
