Assemble is seeking teachers responsible for delivering engaging STEAM based programs.

Assemble Teachers are responsible for delivering engaging STEAM based programs. They actively engage to build a culture of making and inquiry. They work with and report back to the Platform Program Manager (PPM) on Assemble’s current program offerings, to explore new program opportunities, and to help expand organization’s capacity to fulfill its mission and vision.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Part time
Hourly Rate: $10 – $15

Job Duties and Expectations:

  • Facilitates the delivery of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) activities and lesson plans during regularly-scheduled program workshops
  • Writes and/or adapts workshop curriculum using existing best practices in STEAM and “Maker” education
  • Facilitates bi-weekly teaching team meeting and ensures ongoing collaboration with teaching team, clearly communicating any needs and issues at hand
  • Coordinates with the PPM regarding use of available materials at Assemble and digitally submits material requests
  • Fills out and submits weekly workshop debrief form with teaching team to reflect on and improve program
  • Collects and delivers any necessary permission forms and contact information required for program participants and immediately informs the PPM of any changes
  • Records and reports student attendance
  • Ensures that digital evaluation form is administered to individual students at each workshop
  • Attends all mandatory professional development (PD) sessions and monthly all-teacher meetings
  • Maintains a clean environment and performs any necessary set up and cleanup related to the program
  • Works with PPM to plan and facilitate at least one special project, event, or field trip per school year
  • Works with PPM to coordinate at least one Guest Maker-led workshop per semester
  • Manages classroom behavior while promoting a positive learning environment
  • Remains aware of program  timeline and adheres to established timeline
  • Maintains professional interaction with makers, students, on-site contacts, parents, and other points of contact necessary to conduct program
  • Adapts to unplanned events or unexpected changes quickly and professionally
  • Carries out other duties as needed in order to sustain programs, explores new opportunities, and expands organizational capacity

Job Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to learn and share knowledge is required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and or equivalent work experience in an out of school or educational setting
  • Effective mediation skills
  • Commitment to anti-oppression work
  • Attentive to culturally relevant pedagogy and restorative justice methods
  • Must have valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation
  • Must have current clearances for PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal Record, FBI PA Department of Education Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Certificate
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to adapt to a flexible work hours and environment with evolving program priorities
  • Competent with Microsoft Office Suite, ChromeBooks, Email, Google Drive, Google Documents
  • Excellent written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Significant analytical ability and high degree of attention to detail are necessary as well as an understanding of process-based projects
  • Ability and skills to code switch to communicate with a range of people from Children, Teens, Parents, peer Assemble Teachers, and School Teachers
  • Experience with PPS youth and comfortable working with non-dominant youth.
  • Working knowledge of youth oriented programming language (e.g. scratch, minecraft, etc.), robotics, microcontrollers, rapid prototype methods like laser cutter and 3d printers, in a learning environment is preferred
  • STEAM education enthusiasm and knowledge
