Each year the YMCA hosts a national event called Healthy Kids Day in an effort to prevent summer learning loss and unnecessary weight gain. We know that disadvantaged youth fall behind academically because they do not have access to learning opportunities in the summer months. Equally concerning is that children gain body mass index (BMI) nearly twice as fast during the summer than during the school year. Healthy Kids Day is an opportunity to expose youth and their families to resources and experiences that are designed to physically and mentally stimulate in preparation for a healthy summer.
Healthy Kids Day will be on Saturday, April 29th from 10:00am-2:00pm in nine locations this year!
