STEAM Learning Meetup
STEAM Learning Meetup

Formerly called Affinity Groups, Meet-Ups are free, open gatherings designed to address issues, share opportunities, and connect resources within the Remake Learning Network.

In Case You Missed It

  • ISA facilitated a great conversation around the intersection of Collaboration (a 21st Century Skill), and STEAM. Hopefully, those that attended found ways to “promote success of students by focusing on collaborative, problem solving skills.”
  • We also had a hands-on sample of ISA’s new curriculum, “Adventures on the ISA Express,” a K-2 Collaborative Problem-Solving Curriculum
    • Here, we examined the challenges children face when Collaborating. For example:
      • Fear
      • Learned Behavior
      • Critical Thinking
      • Less Time for Play
    • We also discussed ways in which educators can help reinforce Collaboration by instilling certain behaviors in K-2 learners, such as:
      • Helping
      • Listening
      • Sharing
      • Finding Solutions
    • Finally, the group discussed the importance of play, of child development, and of communities of practice as essential elements of student success. (These are just the highlights, folks.)
  • If you are interested in using the approach used at the Meetup, you can find the attached Activity Outline which ISA has graciously shared with us!
