This event, the fourth in a series, will take place at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in the theater on Thursday, October 16th from 12:00 – 1:30pm. Additional sessions hosted by the Digital Badge Lab at The Sprout Fund will be held monthly throughout 2014.

Learn about the origin of the Cities of Learning movement from Akili Lee of the Digital Youth Network in Chicago. Akili will discuss the  importance of digital literacy for youth and the role digital badges can play in making Pittsburgh a City of Learning.

Chicago launched the Cities of Learning movement in 2013 with a successful summer program. The first Chicago Summer of Learning networked more than a 100 organizations, helping more than a 100,000 students access new learning opportunities and earn digital badges.

This year, Chicago became a City of Learning year round, and Columbus, Dallas, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. launched their own hometown efforts. Additional cities are making plans to join in 2015.

Lunch will be served.
